Livermore, Alameda County
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory was founded in 1952 on a former naval air station at the east edge of Livermore. In December 2022 its giant laser facility produced the first fusion reaction to release more energy than the laser delivered to the fuel. The laboratory also has an element named for it: livermorium, number 116 on the periodic table.
